A modernized Marilyn Sofa

We all know the modern classic designed by Studio 65 – La Bocca (meaning “lips” in Italian) or the Marilyn sofa has made countless appearances on TV, print and ads, making it a very well-know furniture classic. This is very much like the icon that it took inspiration from, Marilyn Monroe.

Now, Sand & Birch has modernized this classic into a sofa named “Roxanne.” Both in hard and soft versions. Soft version in polyurethan and fabric, hard version in varnished polyurethane.

What do you think? Which is better? The classic or the revamped version?

A peek into the Moleskin offices

Everytime I go inside Fullybooked, I always pass by the notebooks and sketchpad section where they display pads from Jordi Labanda and Moleskin. If I have the budget for it, I won’t be able to resist the leather-bound wonders that are as much a collector’s item as is an artist’s sketching pad haven. I’ve always wondered what their offices looked like and here are some shots.

Colorplay

When designing retail stores it’s always been a necessity to consider how  colorful the merchandise will be. The color scheme should be just right so that it wouldn’t clash with the merchandise. So when I saw this interior, I think it’s pretty clever that

Vinyl clocks

I’ve always had a soft spot for artists who find new ways to re-use stuff that most people just throw out because they can find no other use for it. Pavel Sidorenko did just the thing. He transferred old vinyl records into clocks! These laser cut pieces are amazing!

I can think of a lot of ways where these would be perfect. These are limited edition stools and coffee tables made from wood and resin with an additional LED light accent. These were designed by Italian designer Giancarlo Zema.

Basil Triptych

The last I heard of this term was when I was still in college. It’s one of those terms you come across when you’re studying the history of Architecture.

trip·tych

A work consisting of three painted or carved panels that are hinged together.

These light fixtures were inspired from the spires of St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow where each dome is styled differently from the rest. Each dome has a symbolic meaning. DZstudio designed these lights with the intent of imitating the movement of a candle flame merged with the style of St. Basil’s domes. The simple white light fixture can be used in classical interiors needing a contemporary feel.
